Fun, Fabulous, Friday

Spring is almost here!! One way you can tell that spring is just around the corner is to listen in the mornings to the birds. I have noticed during the past week or so how loud the birds are singing. My kids love to watch the birds at their grandparent's house. Thier NaNa always has many bird feeders in her yard and the kids love to watch them eat. They comment on the different colors and tails of the birds. It is a great way to learn about nature.

Here is an idea for this fun, fabulous, Friday. Make a backyard birdfeeder for your family to enjoy this spring. It is very simple.

  • Start by drawing a 1/2-inch asterisk on the side of a clean 1-liter soda bottle, about 4 inches from the bottom. Rotate the bottle 90 degrees and draw another asterisk 2 inches from the bottom. Draw a 1-inch-wide circle opposite each asterisk, as shown.
  • Next, use a craft knife to slit the asterisk lines and cut out the circles. Insert a wooden spoon handle first through each hole and then through the opposite asterisk, as shown.
  • Drill a hole in the center of the bottle cap. Then feed a thin piece of rope through the hole and tie a knot.
  • Finally, fill your feeder with birdseed, recap it and use the remaining attached rope to hang the feeder from a tree.
